Today’s Text Reading – Luke 1:67-2:21
As we draw nearer and nearer to Easter, we find ourselves reading about Jesus’ birth in the Text Project. These familiar words remind us of why Jesus was born:
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
“the city of David”
It was prophesied that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, the city of David (Micah 5:2).
Jesus didn’t just come to be a great moral teacher. He came to save his people by dying on a cross.
Jesus was the “anointed one,” “the King of Israel,” our “High Priest.”
Jesus was and is Lord. Yes, he is our friend, but he is also our Lord.
