Man Conference Summaries

Posted on February 9, 2013

Many thanks to Rivite Adam Sanborn for his summaries of each of the messages at the Man Conference. Until audio and video are available, this will have to suffice.

My summary of each pastor’s lesson from today’s Man Conference in 2 sentences (and 1 key passage of Scripture) or fewer:

James – Our lives should be above reproach. As a Christian man, live like you’re being watched, because you are; put effort into moving toward perfection because of what Jesus did for you. (Titus 1:7)

Greg – Men, especially fathers, have the power to act as examples for those around them, and we should be aware of this and live accordingly. (Proverbs 23:26)

Joe – Everyone needs to grow in the ability to curb their desires and impulses; this connects not only to our well-being but also our credibility as witnesses for Jesus. The key to spiritual growth through the Holy Spirit is being able to move on from failure. (Titus 2:8-13)

Paul – We have a calling to serve with willing and eager attitudes, and to be selfless as Jesus was. (Mark 10:45)

Mark – Men have a tendency to be either passive or controlling in how they treat their families, both of which are wrong. Communication is key in finding out how we’re doing at managing our resources, relationships, and time as God entrusted us. (Matthew 25:14-30)

Noel – We have to train our children to love God and to love others, by starting with the law (things like respecting authority) and moving to grace. (1 Corinthians 13:11)

Dan – Hospitality means demonstrating true love for strangers and meeting their needs. We do this because of our past as sinners, and our future as recipients of God’s eternal hospitality. (Matthew 25:34-46)

Steve – Sober-mindedness means living a life that reflects the wisdom of Scripture. We need men who live for others, who have integrity, who team up, and who have courage. (Philippians 2:19-30)
